Celine Dion's brother Daniel dies of cancer

Celine Dion's brother has died. Daniel Dion lost his life just days after Celine's husband René Angélil passed away following a battle with the disease. The death of Daniel was confirmed by the singer's sister Claudette, who told the Journal de Montréal that her sibling was serene ahead of his passing. She added to the newspaper: "He was ready and his suffering is over." Daniel was suffering from cancer of the throat, tongue, and brain, while René had throat cancer. Announcing René's death on Thursday (14.01.16), Celine's representative said: "René Angélil, 73, passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer. The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time." The 73-year-old music manager's memorial will take place on January 22 at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal. The venue is the same place that Celine married René. PEOPLE reports that his obituary reads: "According to his final wishes, his funeral will be held at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, where 21 years ago, he chose to marry the one who will remain as the great love of his life, the artist for which he had the most respect, the woman who gave him light and happiness until his very last breath." Celine cancelled her shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace Las Vegas Hotel and Casino following her husband's death, with her residency return tentatively scheduled for February 23.
