Dubai Police fulfils inmate's wish to see daughter's marriage

Dubai Police

The General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments in Dubai made an inmate's dream come true by allowing him to celebrate his daughter's marriage through a video call.

The initiative was carried out under the directives of His Excellency Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, and with the oversight of His Excellency Expert Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commandant for Criminal Investigation Affairs.

Major General Marwan Abdul Karim Julfar, Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments, said they prioritise the humanitarian needs of inmates by allowing them to share special occasions with their loved ones via video calls.

"When an inmate's family requested that the father attend his daughter's marriage contract electronically, the request was quickly approved. The father was connected with his family and witnessed the ceremony, completing all necessary legal formalities with the officiant through video conferencing. This enabled him to share in these joyful and significant moments, which are essential for emotional support and family solidarity," he stated.

He highlighted that they are committed to implementing various community programs to help inmates achieve optimal psychological and social adjustment to their new environment.

"These programs focus on reshaping attitudes and behaviours, replacing them with socially and legally acceptable norms, ultimately enhancing their social roles and functions. This preparation enables inmates to reintegrate effectively and live harmoniously with their families and communities."

The inmate thanked Dubai Police and everyone involved in the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments for facilitating his connection with his family.
