Saudi Arabia launches global Arabic fiction competition

The Golden Pen Award for Novels, being rolled out by Saudi Arabia, comes with a combined prize pot of $690,000 and looks to celebrate the world's best Arabic writers.

Arab novelists have the chance to scoop one of a number of cash prizes by submitting Arabic novels.

The Best Screenplay Adapted from a Literary Work comes with a staggering $100,000 prize for first place, with $50,000 awarded for second place and $30,000 for third place.

The Novel Tracks category will award $25,000 to the best novel in genres such as romance, fantasy and historical fiction. 

The jury consists of three novelists, three screenwriters and three producers from the Arab world and winners will be revealed during a TV ceremony. 

Further details on how to take part are yet to be announced.
