His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the Expanded International Ministerial Meeting on Syria, held on Saturday in Aqaba, Jordan.
Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the expanded meeting reflects a collective international stance in support of Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and the aspirations of its people for security, stability, and a dignified life.
He stressed the importance of regional and international cooperation to reach a political settlement in Syria, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
He emphasised the need to support and assist UN Special Envoy Geir Pedersen in his efforts to achieve a political resolution that establishes security and stability in Syria, benefiting its people with prosperity and well-being.
In a statement issued following its meeting, the Committee called for supporting the role of the UN envoy to Syria.
It emphasised the need for an inclusive national dialogue and for the Syrian people, in all their components, affiliations, and political and social forces, to unite in building a free, safe, stable, and unified Syria that meets their aspirations.
The meeting was also attended by Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs and representatives from around the world, including Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States.
