A new entity has been established to document and preserve the legacy of Dubai's rulers and the Al Maktoum family.

In his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, has issued Law No. (28) of 2024, establishing the Al Maktoum Archives.

This new law creates the Al Maktoum Archives Corporation, a public institution under The Executive Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The Archives will focus on preserving and documenting the cultural heritage of Dubai’s rulers and the Al Maktoum family, ensuring it is accessible for future generations.

It will serve as a central repository for Sheikh Mohammed's biography, collections and literary works, while highlighting his role in transforming Dubai into a global cultural and commercial hub.

The Archives will also share the intellectual and cultural legacy of Dubai’s rulers through publications and media channels, showcasing their contributions to the emirate's development and the founding of the UAE.

The Al Maktoum Archives Corporation will be responsible for preserving this rich history by formulating policies, conducting research and producing multimedia content.

A digital archive will be established, and national expertise in archiving will be developed. The Corporation will also collaborate with local and international organisations to raise awareness of Dubai's historical legacy.

The law requires all entities in Dubai holding historical documents related to the rulers and the Al Maktoum family to register them with the Archives within one year.

Any unregistered documents will become the property of the Corporation, and disposal of such documents without approval is strictly prohibited.

This initiative ensures the protection and accessibility of Dubai's historical records for researchers, decision-makers and future generations.
