Shoppers and mall operators in Abu Dhabi are being reminded to follow health and safety guidelines that have been put in place to combat the spread of COVID-19 as businesses begin to reopen.

Five shopping centres in the capital have gained permits from the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED), with more centres working towards ensuring processes are in place.

Rashed Abdul Karim Al Balooshi, Undersecretary of ADDED, added that shoppers and mall operators are equally responsible to ensure the centres function smoothly.

He advised people to ensure shopping trips don't exceed two hours, to wear masks and gloves at all times and to maintain social distancing guidelines.

Violations will not be tolerated, Al Balooshi said, adding that regular inspections and control visits will be held to ensure rules are being followed.
