Authorities in the UAE are shining the spotlight on family online safety through a major awareness campaign.

This latest initiative aims to promote safe practices for children and families on websites and social media platforms, and also highlights the protection of personal data.

The focus is on topics such as privacy, cyberbullying, online gaming, screen time management and parental control.

The Telecommunications & Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has launched the campaign in partnership with the UAE Media Council and TikTok.

It involves the participation of social media influencers, while cinemas, theatres and television channels are also lending their support.

"The UAE society is undoubtedly one of the most internet-active societies, which heightens the likelihood of potential errors. Hence, launching campaigns like these is crucial to raising awareness and equipping individuals with the necessary knowledge to address threats effectively," said Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, the TDRA's Director General.

Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of the UAE Media Council, emphasised the significance of this initiative in educating families about best practices to ensure their children’s digital safety. He highlighted the importance of providing them with the necessary tools and mechanisms to effectively address any challenges.
