The UAE participated in the BRICS Sherpa on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in Russia's Kazan, which is set to finish on October 24.

Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saeed Mubarak Al-Hajeri, headed the UAE delegation to the 4th Sherpa and Sous Sherpa meetings, from October 17 to 22.

Sherpas are a select group of leaders representing their countries within the BRICS bloc. The role of a Sherpa is that of being the main channel for communication amongst the BRICS nations.

All BRICS members participated in the meeting at the level of Sherpa and Sous Sherpa.

Al-Hajeri emphasised the UAE's ongoing commitment to advancing economic integration within the BRICS framework. He highlighted the country's dedication to supporting joint efforts to address critical global challenges.

The UAE joined BRICS as a full member in January 2024, alongside five other countries, marking a significant milestone in its international engagement strategy.

For the UAE, BRICS represents a platform to deepen economic ties, support the development of sustainable projects, and engage in constructive dialogue on global economic governance.
