UAE, South Korea Presidents discuss enhancing ties

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol met in Seoul on Wednesday to explore opportunities to build upon the Special Strategic Partnership between the two countries and expand cooperation across various fields.

The two leaders also discussed regional and international issues and developments of shared concern.

The meeting occurred during official talks at the Office of the President in Seoul as part of His Highness' state visit.

The two leaders reviewed existing and potential cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy and investment, conventional and clean energy, peaceful nuclear energy, defence and defence technology, as well as other areas of mutual interest, including science, technology, sustainability, and culture.

They also explored opportunities to advance mutual interests and meet the current and future needs of both countries and exchanged views on several regional and international issues, foremost among them the importance of supporting efforts worldwide to promote peace, stability, and development in the Middle East.

The two also emphasised the need for the global community to build bridges of communication, understanding, and collaboration to promote inclusive development and sustainable prosperity.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan stated that the UAE and South Korea enjoy deep strategic relations based on common interests, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to global peace.

He also said that since 2009, the two countries have successfully partnered on one of the UAE's most significant strategic development projects, the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant. South Korea is also one of the UAE's most significant trading partners both regionally and globally.

His Highness thanked President Yoon Suk Yeol and the Korean people for the warm welcome the UAE delegation received and wished the country continued progress and prosperity.

President Yoon Suk Yeol hosted a luncheon in honour of His Highness the President and the accompanying delegation.

SOUTH KOREA VISIT WAM

Beforehand, an official reception ceremony was held for upon arrival at the Office of the President in Seoul. The ceremony featured several displays by Korean aircraft, a 21-gun salute, and an honour guard formation to welcome His Highness’ visit. The national anthems of both the UAE and South Korea were played.

Groups of children performed an Emirati song, while others waved the flags of both countries.

His Highness’ visit was also marked by public celebration, with the streets of Seoul adorned with UAE flags and the city's landmarks illuminated in the colours of the UAE flag.
