UAE, German non-oil trade hits AED 478 billion over 10 years

Non-oil trade between UAE and Germany exceeded AED 478 billion between 2012 and 2021, data from the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre (FCSC) revealed.

Imports accounted for 89.5 per cent of total trade, with exports comprising 3.5 per cent, and re-exports 7 per cent, equalling AED 427.4 billion of imports, or 12.7 million tonnes, AED 17.1 billion of exports, or 961,700 tonnes, and AED 33.4 billion of re-exports, weighing 353,000 tonnes.

Trade grew by 12% by the end of 2021 year-on-year, equating to AED 35.3 billion against AED 31.5 billion by the end of 2020. Cars topped the list of the most important goods imported from Germany during the year at a value of AED 4.3 billion, followed by aircraft at AED 3 billion, medicine at AED 1.9 billion, automotive parts at AED 1 billion, and finally antiserums and immune products worth AED 0.8 billion.

The top 5 commodities exported to Germany during 2021 included insulated wires and cables at about AED 363 million, cigarettes worth AED 166 million, electricity savers at AED 134 million, jewelry at AED 76 million, and raw aluminum at AED 75 million.

The top 5 goods re-exported to Germany included telephones at AED 494 million, turbo-jets and turbo propellers at AED 485 million, cars at AED 391 million, aircraft parts at AED 371 million, and jewelry at AED 196 million.
