The ride hailing firm Uber will soon add self-driving cars to its Abu Dhabi fleet following a partnership with WeRide, a leading autonomous driving technology company.
The partnership is expected to launch in the UAE capital later this year, where users will be able to request rides in WeRide's autonomous vehicles through the Uber app.
In July 2023, WeRide received the UAE’s first national licence for self-driving vehicles, allowing it to operate on public roads throughout the country.
"Together, we aim to combine our collective experience and expertise to deliver much needed, affordable, sustainable and safe mobility solutions to a global audience," said Tony Han, WeRide's CEO.
"It’s clear that the future of mobility will be increasingly shared, electric, and autonomous, and we look forward to working with leading AV companies like WeRide to help bring the benefits of autonomous technology to cities around the world," added Uber's CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi.
Big news! We feel excited to partner with @Uber to bring @WeRide_ai’s autonomous vehicles onto the #Uber platform, beginning in the #UAE later this year.
