The Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) announced they have planted 15,881 trees in 2024, marking marks its second consecutive Year of Sustainability.

This year’s initiative focused on Samar trees, a resilient native species renowned for thriving in arid conditions and mountainous areas, helping to enrich the soil, and support local biodiversity.

Habiba Al Mar’ashi, the co-founder and chairperson of the Group, said, “These trees will not only provide habitats for bees, birds, insects, and small animals, but also act as natural carbon sinks, mitigating emissions and advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is a collective effort and today, you are part of a global movement toward sustainability.”

She added, “Since its inception in 2007 and under the umbrella of the global Plant for the Planet campaign rolled out by UNEP, EEG’s “For Our Emirates We Plant” programme has facilitated the plantation of over 1,241,485 native trees across the UAE. These efforts have collectively sequestered thousands of tons of CO2 emissions annually. In 2024 alone, EEG has proudly planted 15,881 trees”.

EEG hosted its annual “For Our Emirates We Plant” ceremony in Ras Al Khaimah’s Bee Reserve Area.

The event brought together 182 companies, 62 schools, and 209 families encompassing more than 1,500 people, united in the mission to expand the sustainable green spaces and foster environmental stewardship across the UAE.
