A suitcase of an Egyptian traveller which contained his travel documents and $7,000, lost after he mistakenly took another similar bag from a female traveller at Dubai International Airport, was traced and returned to him within half an hour, Dubai Police said on Sunday.

Brigadier Hamouda Al-Suwaida Al-Ameri, Director General of Airport Security, said Mounir Sayed Ibrahim, reported he had lost his suitcase by mistake, after taking another traveller’s suitcase, and that he had to catch another plane heading to China in just one hour.

Brigadier Al Ameri confirmed airport police tracked Mounir's progress from the moment he entered the airport, reviewed surveillance cameras, and communicated with Emirates Airlines, which he had flown on from Cairo.

Investigations revealed the bag had been switched with the bag of an Egyptian traveller who was still in Dubai Airport waiting for her relatives. She did not know she had the wrong bag.

The two passengers expressed their thanks and appreciation for the efforts of Dubai Police which enabled each of them to continue their journey smoothly.
