The traffic accident fatality rate in Dubai decreased by as much as 93 per cent between 2007 and 2023.
The fatality rate recorded in the emirate last year was the lowest ever at 1.6 deaths per 100,000 people, lower than the intended target of 2.
These stats were revealed on Wednesday when the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police held a coordination meeting to review the results of the Dubai Traffic Safety Strategy.
Officials also discussed the safety of public transport users, as well as Dubai Police's requirements for Dubai Metro's Blue Line project.
"The RTA is keen to achieve the targeted indicators of the Dubai Traffic Safety Strategy with its Zero Fatalities vision to rank Dubai the best in the world in terms of traffic safety," said Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA.
Lt. General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police commended the force's strategic partnership with the RTA, which he said has contributed to establishing joint systems and achieving the goals of enhanced security and safety on Dubai's roads.
