Malls in Dubai to ban the use of hoverboards

All malls in Dubai have been asked to ban the use of hoverboards. The Department of Economic Development (DED) issued the prohibition order after receiving an increasing number of complaints and concerns from shopkeepers. Malls have been directed not to allow the use of balance wheels – the handle-less variant of segways which are currently popular among consumers and shoppers. It’s part of the DED’s efforts to ensure a safe shopping environment in Dubai and also to protect the rights of shopkeepers so can conduct their business without fear of loss or danger. Abdul Aziz Al Tannak, Director of Commercial Control in DED, said: “We will put up signs banning the use of these Segway scooters across malls in co-ordination with the malls management. Mall visitors are requested to co-operate and adhere to the ban in order to prevent inconvenience and damages to both traders as well as other visitors. We also call on parents to prevent their children from using these devices in malls to avoid accidents and any legal liability that may follow.”
