As many as 108 violations were detected in school buses in Dubai during a recent inspection campaign by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Bus drivers and attendants did not have the required permits in most instances, while other offences were related to non-compliance with technical and safety specifications.

The authority carried out 1,331 inspections covering the buses of 103 schools.

The checks will continue throughout the school year to ensure operators are complying with the regulations.

"As all students have now switched to face-to-face learning mode, we launched this campaign as part of our ongoing inspections of the school transport sector," said Saeed Al Balooshi, Director of Passenger Transport Activities Monitoring Department at the RTA's Public Transport Agency.

"Covering 103 out of 205 schools in total is attributed to a host of factors. Schools were used to the online learning mode due to Covid-19 during the last academic year and there were variations in the timing of bus arrivals at schools, also due to the Covid challenges," he added.
